MISSION STATEMENT

The Consumer Wellness Center of Falls Church, Inc. is a daily drop-in center for clients with mental health and homeless issues.  Our center is run by consumers themselves.

The mission of our center is to provide a safe, stress-free, stigma free and low-stress environment for our clients to aid them in independent living.

We offer a TV room, computer lab and quiet rooms for our clients.  We also provide a light lunch.  We also provide resources for mental health and living arrangements.

A BOARD MEMBER WRITES ...

The board of directors provides the policy and the procedure that governs the operation of the CWC.  Meeting quarterly, the board welcomes comments, complaints, critiques and any commendations of how to make the center a welcoming place for people with mental illness.

The board constantly strives to improve the CWC.  It remains the final decision-maker in terms of resolving disputes.  In this manner, serves as conflict resolution, mediation and conciliation.

The board membership remains open to any member of the CWC.  Perhaps you may want to make a difference by becoming a board.   - by Jay

PERSONAL AND COMMUNITY SUCCESS

The Seven Corners CWC, or what we call the "7 Corners drop-in" has been a new beginning and a place of growth for me.  I lost a dear friend at about the same time that the drop-in center opened.  I saw a flyer about a place for people with mental health issues.  The flyer said "Safe and Stigma free".  I visited and found the center staff to be welcoming, warm and respectful.  It was wonderful to share a meal with someone again... I met new friends there and started to rebuild my life.  That was several years ago; now I'm proud to serve on the board and visit often.  This is growth and this is success!  Our center serves the entire Northern Virginia area.  Lunch is great and we have lots of activities like picnics, computer classes, WRAP groups, outings and a small army of volunteers.  This is an incredible success!

Our community is fortunate to have the support of so many!  Please contact us if you'd like to volunteer or make a donation.  - M.C. Violet Taylor

HAI'S STORY

My name is Hai.  I enjoy working at the Consumer Wellness Center; in face, I've been working here since our center opened.  I enjoy working in our kitchen and preparing lunch.

Our most popular lunch are hot dogs, and chicken is also very popular.  I graduated from our computer class and now am experienced in Word and Excel.  I also play Scrabble with our clients, which helps them feel at ease.

THINGS WE'VE DONE THIS SUMMER

We held our annual picnic in June.  We've taken trips as well: to the National Zoo in May, Six flags in July and Ocean City in August.  We capped off the summer by watching the Nats beat the Brewers at the new ball park.  Some pictures are below!

Our clients greatly look forward to our outings.  We are hopeful of attending Redskins, Wizards and Mystics games.  And we are trying to set up a chess team for competition between centers.

UPCOMING EVENTS:

Computer class on September 18, Peer to Peer on September 25(for 9 weeks).  Give us a call for current updates.
